Meet Teddy

This is my Teddy. He is like an overprotective boyfriend, and we are very inlove. He will spend the rest of the day looking outside my window as I get down with some therapeutic Spring cleaning.

I am really looking forward to attending Mimouna  for the very first time tonight. I hear this beautiful cross-cultural tradition will be celebrated with room after room filled with food, music, photography, poetry, comedy, henna, and art! Spiced with the flavors of the Middle East and North Africa, I am pretty sure I am in for a treat!
I hope you are all having a weekend filled with newness!

Thrift Store Convert

I had been lusting over the hot pink blazer in Zara's Spring collection for a little while. So many different types of bloggers were rocking it and the styling opportunities seemed endless! I needed this piece in my wardrobe and it was just a matter of time before I would cough up the $99 retail price and have it for myself...

Zara Pink Blazer Spring 2011
In a completely random twist of fate...I was spending the day frolicking in Cambridge one afternoon and the weather turned from warm and sunny to a winter-like chill (it's late April, mind you). I am a New Englander and should have known better by being prepared for mother nature's bipolar ways, but she caught me off guard this time. So, instead of spending the rest of my night shivering, I decided to walk into a thrift store in Central Square in hopes of finding something warm and cozy. That's when I spotted this pink beauty. I was disappointed that the tag was two sizes too small and I was sure it would look all types of wrong on me. I tried it on anyways and to my surprise, I really loved the fit! The quality was amazing, and the jacket just had such uniqueness and high end quality to it...not to mention the price read $6! YES, that's right, $6!!

Now, I've never been much of a thrift store kind of girl. I'm a child of comsumption and crave everything in it's sparkly new packaging. I thought thrift stores were too much of a messy, dusty, out of date hastle...Oh, was I wrong! This one find has opened my eyes to a whole new world of shopping. A cheaper, even more environmentally conscious way of shopping! I have bought several more pieces from them since then, and have found new spots around Boston that I am dying to try. The thrill of finding little gems and treasures for fractions of the price has really made me a convert. Shopping will never be the same again!

70s Redux

This is what I wore on Easter. The cleavage revealing jumpsuit was pretty provocative and kept moving out of place, but I was surrounded by nothing but family, so it wasn't a big deal. Sure, my sisters teased me for showing off the goodies, but a minute later we were getting a rise out of our mom by making some pretty raunchy jokes (too raunchy for this blog, in fact!). My family is a circus. And the true loves of my life.

On further thought... I'm not sure that I could get away with wearing this out and about. I might just have to designate it to the beach and home only ;)

Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself. I am large, I contain multitudes.

I can't remember when it was that I first read that quote by Walt Whitman, but I've always loved it. It's very freeing to accept oneself (and others) as the inconsistent, changing, growing beings that we are.

With just a week left of National Poetry Month, I dedicate this post to some of my favorite poets, including Whitman. Although I have a hard time commiting entire poems to memory, there are always lines-phrases-words, that have the ability to articulate exactly what's in my insides, OR, completely go against everything that I believe, and cause me to rip my world wide open. I am so greatful for that sort of rapture, and those who cause it: Rumi, Hafiz, Noami Shihab, Suheir Hamad, Pablo Neruda, David Whyte, Muhammad (PBUH), and Delmira Agustini are among the many many many...

On another note, I am happy to report what a fashionable contradiction leopard and stripes make! I have not been brave enough to test stripes and florals just yet, but you wont catch me saying never...

Place a wish in your heart

Pablo Coelho wote in the Alchemist that if you want something with your whole heart, the world will conspire to help you achieve it. This may be true and all, but I'm just not buying it today. I wished for something, with my whole heart. It had been so long  since I last wanted something this bad, and well, it just didn't work out for me. I know, I know, it wasn't meant to be, and other, better, unexpected opportunities will present themselves right? For now, I can only do what's in my power- wake up, dress up, and show up!

AND as they say "things will come to those who wait...but only what's left by those who hustle".
Hustle time.
